This couple on the tandem bike came to me while I was painting large murals on commission about women winning the vote in New Zealand-Aotearoa. I like Piet Mondrian’s abstract painting using yellow, red and blue. and those colors fell into place with this image. I called it Bauhaus Bikers as an acknowledgment of the modernist influence of Mondrian and the Bauhaus movement - but also because of the date of winning the vote - 1893!
